History of Kids Tag Art
In 2006, the Polk County Tax Collector’s Office envisioned a program that would educate children about specialty license plates and the role art plays in commerce while inspiring them to explore their artistic abilities.
Polk County Kids Tag Art, now in its eighth year, accomplishes this vision while also providing direct funding for art supplies to virtually every elementary school across Polk County. Children design and draw their art on a unique palette which is then available for purchase as a vanity tag to friends, family and the general public through the Polk County Tax Collector’s website.
This program has now generated close to 20,000 pieces of artwork in over 95 elementary schools and has raised over $89,000 for classroom art programs in Polk County alone.
Two tag designs from each school are selected for Awards of Distinction and are showcased on a traveling display throughout the county the entire year to highlight student art work, promote the program and to recognize and thank our sponsors.
With the help of sponsors and community partners, the program has been very successful. The Kids Tag Art program has now spread to 8 counties throughout Florida. Columbia County became the ninth county when we started our program in the Fall of 2015.
